Doug Wimbish and Novasound Studios, LLC together with Rockhouse School of Music, West Haven Mayor Edward O’Brien and the City of West Haven, CT presented the 1st Annual WimBash Beach Festival on Sunday, August 16, 2015 from 3:00 pm – 9:00 pm at Old Grove Park at West Haven Savin Rock Beach in West Haven, CT.
An exciting day of music with internationally acclaimed rock royalty joined together in The WimBash All-Star Band supergroup featuring Doug Wimbish and frontman Corey Glover of the Grammy Award winning rock-funk band Living Colour, drummer Daru Jones (Jack White, The RUFF Pack), as featured on the July 2015 cover of Modern Drummer magazine, and guitarist Paul Pesco (Hall & Oates, Madonna).
Oli Herbert (All That Remains), Berklee College of Music sophomore Kyle Ward (guitar), John McCarthy (Rockhouse School of Music), powerhouse vocalist Heather Joseph and Rohn Lawrence (guitar) were amongst the special guests performing with the WimBash All-Star Band.
The WimBash Beach line-up also featured performances by Chemical Z, twin brothers duo The Brady Brothers (celebrating their new release “Riding Shotgun”), Maxx Explosion, Tears Fall Down with special guests Desiree Bassett (Cirque du Soleil's “Michael Jackson: The Immortal World Tour”) and Caitlin Kalafus (Kicking Daisies), PLB, JME Strchld, Angela Luna , Klokwize + more. Connecticut’s own DJ Markie Gee was spinning and kept the groove on.
Hosted by the legendary Living Colour and Sugar Hill Records bassist Doug Wimbish, the WimBash Beach Festival supported the West Haven Public School District music program. The WimBash event raised over $7,000.00 for the District’s music program. Combined with another $2,000.00 raised earlier in the year at a West Haven WimBash event, the total donated on behalf of WimBash exceeded $9,000.00.Through raffle sales and donations, proceeds from the WimBash fundraiser assisted program development for students to learn guitar, bass and keyboard using Rock House U Video Learning Labs. Additionally, funds raised were also be used to purchase instruments, computers and software to implement the learning system.
Featuring music for all ages, the free, family friendly event featured a live music stage, DJ, food trucks and beer garden, Shock Top car, raffles, giveaways and WImBash event T-shirts.
Donations of gently used or unwanted musical instruments and gear were collected for distribution to underprivileged youth in the West Haven, CT area in conjunction with Rockhouse School of Music.
